Extreme ankle snapping addiction
-
If your parents are doctors, then they are probably like other doctors i am afraid - no offense. They don't really know much about the subject and can't help you about it.
-
my parents both say it is a nervous habit, and the only way to stop is to have self control.
unfortunately that doesn't work.
even when i say i want to stop, it always haunts me because when i walk up stairs, drive, or even more my ankle it snaps.
It is definitely inflamed around the cracking site, yes.my ex girlfriend use to love my ankle. she would hold it while i cracked it ( I KNOW it sounds so weird right) but it was the biggest turn on. I love it when other people touch it
-
Ok, well everyone has their own special things, so that is nothing wrong.
Ok, next, i used to crack my fingers as a nervous reaction. I had stopped cracking my fingers since New Years Day but i learnt how to crack the first joints on my fingers and because it cracked my knuckles sometimes i gave up. So i am going to stop again on June 4th - my birthday.
The way to overcome it, is too every time you feel you are going to crack, do something else, or try and do something which will stop it. After a while, your desire for the crack will go.
It seems if you bring this to your parent's attention then they may help.
Finally, for the inflamation, massage or hot and cold water should help.

yeah cracking joints does create some really good relief, i know what you mean

IF and IF you stop for a few months, that desire is supressed by like a invisible force.
-
i just don't know if i can make it to a monthโฆ
i have tried but it's virtually impossible. the thing is no matter what- it will crack on me, always reminding me of the sensation. It cracks when i drive, use stairs, stand up, ect... its inevitable.
I'm hopeless. Ill just be an ankle addict for ever.
does anyone else like the sensation of rubbing their cracking location? is it very tender and sensitive? -
My unprofessional opinion is that is sounds like obsessive compulsive disorder. I can relate to not being able to stop the cracking. If I were to try to stop I don't know if it would be possible. I suppose if someone said they would give me a million dollars if I could make it a whole day without cracking I could find a way to do it, so I guess it's not impossible.
I'm not sure if I understand what you mean about the rubbing. Do you rub while you are cracking?

that sounds like it might be right with the OCD thing, a lot has been made of it on these forums..

Yep on causes i think.
-
yeah thats it

yea while i am snapping my ankle, a tendon (i think?) and a vein become very hard and tender. I can rub and push them around and it increases the satisfaction.
its definitely an OCD thing.
I hate it. i even considered going a psychologist about it, but i feel like they won't understand.
until then, ill keep on snapping away. its a love/hate relationship -
I am going to the chiropractor tomorrow, as i was told they are specialist on this problem. Im excited to hear what they have to say and what they are going to suggest.
surgury or therapy-typed treatment -
what did the chiro say?
Surgery for cracking ?
that sounds extreme and unwarranted. -
I cracked my ankle too, though not as much. I know what you mean about it cracking in normal activities, like walking up stairs. I believe that would eventually go away if you stopped the excessive popping. I think that by popping joints you make it easier for it to happen the next time and so on. So excessively popping a joint makes it that much easier for it to happen when you're not trying.

Hmm, interesting thread here.
-
ahh i know how you feel!!
i just graduated from high school actually. and crack like crazy. and then walking up stairs, my ankles crack and there is nothing i can do to stop it.it just feels like i have to and if i dont it starts to bug me.
so i dont think i can possibly ever stop -
The chiro really didnt know much about it.
he did some poping and moving of his own and taped my ankle a few times.
it didn't help. The cracking is still as stronge as ever.
I have done some "research" online and found that the sensation on the side of my ankle may be Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome.
My ankle is starting to feel quite weak and im beggining to get worried! Even though I know I should stop cracking it, I can't.
Ive delt with an addiction in high school, which I can honestly say was easier to kick than this. -
Yeah, I've had to do it in class before. The ankle pop might be the most satisfying of all besides popping the chest/sternum
