Neck cracking is risky. I'm not sure any other normal type of cracking is risky for a healthy person.

RE: On a scale of 1-10, how bad would you say cracking is?

RE: Not spending enough time engaging in physical activity?
I'm pretty sure my joints crack more when I haven't been active for a while. However, the toes are an exception.

RE: How do you walk?
I wouldn't be surprised if the theory has a basis in fact. I do walk on my toes a lot, because of mid-foot problems. By paying attention, maybe I'll notice if my toes need to be cracked more on days when I'm on my feet much.

RE: I'll be so happy if someone can answer this!
Have you ever had an x-ray?

RE: Which of your toes crack?
I crack them all and usually do it by pushing down. At times, the toes (maybe not the middle ones) can be popped by pushing them against the ground. If I'm lazy, I might pop the toes with the help of the other foot instead of my fingers. The little toes sometimes I pull on to pop.

RE: Do you keep jointcracking a secret?
I've never discussed it with anyone at length. The only brief comments I've made have been in response to others' observations. With a childish exception that I shall withhold here

RE: Stretching your neck upwards
8O No, I haven't experienced it, and I don't want to.

RE: Artificial neck implants?
I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but there are implants. Artificial discs, which are new and for replacing discs that are worn out like mine. Not worn out from cracking, probably.

RE: Ways I use to crack my back
I twist. I don't want new methods for cracking my joints; they sound disgusting to me the hypocrite.

RE: The "crack of dawn"
I crack everything soon after I wake up, because stiffness is bad then.

RE: How did you come across this forum?
It was at a a niche men's site. There wasn't much interest shown about joint cracking.

RE: Can u pass this Hypermobility Syndrome test?
I am young enough and have foot problems, too. The feet are too flexible. I was diagnosed with flat feet at 21 (uncommon to have at that age) and later plantar fasciitis, after one long walk :?. But the plantar fasciitis never went away, because it's actually something worse and not something arch supports can fully alleviate. It took a few doctors and two MRIs to figure that out. If I were you, I'd take a hard look at Ehlers Danlos. FYI, I don't bruise easily and can't do #5 (my 1 point) to the extreme you can, but my skin is softer than what's normal for peers. You can PM me if you want an opinion based on more information; I've become good at noticing the signs and symptoms.

RE: Public vs. Private
I avoid more than cracking of individual fingers and, if uncomfortable enough, a slight tug of the chin when I'm conscious of others. Often I'm lost in my own world, with only footwear and space limitations stopping me from all the cracks I do at home. It's probably a habit of mine to crack freely as soon as I can, like when I get home and take off my shoes. Home sweet home

RE: How did you come across this forum?
It was mentioned in a totally different type of forum, and then I rediscovered the bookmark when I Googled for a survey on knuckle-cracking.

RE: Hypermobile Joints / Lax liagments
I'd be surprised if inborn wrist, toe, and finger flexibility can be increased much by any means, so I'm inclined to believe that hypermobility plus probably stiffness precedes the first sweet crack. Beighton is of limited value in measuring hypermobility, IMO.

RE: Tourette's Syndrome
OCD is an anxiety disorder, and joint-cracking seems to relieve physiological tension. I'm a bit obsessive, also. Hence, the theory wins my seal of plausibility approval.

Do Women Crack as Much?
Does anyone know if women crack their joints as much as men do? Might there be differences in habits between joint-crackers of different sexes, like in joints cracked or degree of privacy? I don't know if anyone can even state the male/female ratio here, but they're good questions anyway They have been sparked by my perception that cracking (in others) is gross and the sexist belief that women shouldn't be gross.

RE: At what age did your joints start cracking?
I started by age 11. It didn't happen; I chose to do it.

RE: Apart from on here, how many people do you know with crackin
Aside from a person with bad joints like mine and now-dead elderly relatives (whose habits I copied), nobody. I don't know many people, regardless of their habits. I intend to see if I'm missing any knuckle-crackers among my acquaintances.
