Could this possibly be a cause?

I'm not sure. I get a lot of exercise but because of my eating my over weight. Of course, my cracking problems seem to hinder in some ways my ability to exercise.

Getting a lot of excercise is bad too as you damage joints through wear and tear.

Not really as like for running - when your foot hits the ground, it impacts a weight 3 times your body weight.

I'm pretty sure my joints crack more when I haven't been active for a while. However, the toes are an exception.

Running strengthens the skeleton and especially the joints. Your info is a bit old. Old wives tale I'd say!
