    • RE: My routine…

      Here's my technique for lower back (I tried yours, it totally worked!)

      Start with lying down flat on the back, arms stretched outwards on the side. While keeping the left leg stretched straight, bend the right knee and bring the right foot on the left knee. Now, turn neck to the right and using your left hand, bring the right knee down towards the floor on the left side - as much as possible.

      here's an image I found online:

      … and you can repeat on the other side!

    • Knuckle cracking and arthrities

      proof that there is no relation… source:
      http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/cgi-bin/fulltext/86510619/PDFSTART

      For 50 years, the author cracked the knuckles of his left hand at least twice a day, leaving those on the right as a control. Thus, the knuckles on the left were cracked at least 36,500 times, while those on the right cracked rarely and spontaneously. At the end of the 50 years, the hands were compared for the presence of arthritis. There was no arthritis in either hand, and no apparent differences between the two hands.

      @dj100:

      i want to do yoga but i just have this image that its mostly old women - is this true?

      I guess you'll just have to find the right group! I joined one which is of mostly youths and they taught much more than just yoga… it's called 'art of living', see if it's there in your city. their uk website is yesplusuk.com

      @dj100:

      any long term damage? what do you crack and why?

      no I haven't had any damage… I used to crack pretty much all possible joints, but now its just occasional knuckles and back. I think my craving went down since getting involved in yoga.

    • RE: Noisiness

      I once cracked my neck in one of my classes, and it cracked surprisingly loud… the professor stopped talking and everybody turn to look at me. The guys behind and next to me were horrified. Somebody asked "Are you ok?"

      I was embarrassed :oops:

      well the good news is, it was one of my best cracks ever! Oh my, I still remember it 2 years later... :lol:

      I started around 9 and was always discouraged.
      Now, 15 years later I'm still doing fine 🙂

      back when I was teen, I used to crack my younger brother's joints… but he found it kind of annoying. I thought he was weird, how can one not enjoy the relief! :lol:

      it has always been a fantasy to have someone else stretch my back. here I post anonymously but out there I guess I'm too self conscious to ask anyone!

    • RE: Bizarre cracking fantasies

      o*g, yes!!
      I have such 'bizarre' fantasies, so nice to know I'm not the only one! one of them is sitting on chair with a seatbelt, and my shoulders attached to some kind of crane which pulls upper body… cracking all vertebrae by vertebrae!

      @verlaine:

      I have to confess that I have bizarre fantasies about devices and situations that will crack my back, and sometimes I obsess about them. I dream of being in a medieval torture rack or being chained between two cars and pulled apart until my back totally cracks.

      Also, I have also thought about havingt a giant King Kong-sized being grab me with one hand around my shoulders and one hand around my waist and wring me out like a dishtowel.

      Anybody else?
