I understand that in some parts of the world (e.g., India), it is common for barbers to crack the customer's neck after a haircut. Has anyone on the forum had this experience?

There are some real amusing anecdotes re neck-cracking barbers - including several from Vietnam where American GIs were startled (to put it mildly 8O ) by their barber suddenly twisting their neck around to crack it. That would have been funny … in hindsight.

I've come across blogs/reports of barbers in the following countries doing the neck-crack procedure:

              Malaysia
              Singapore
              Indonesia
              Vietnam
              Philippines
              India
              Turkey

I wonder which country it was that the practice started and how it spread from place to place...

sounds like an indian thing, so probably started there.
