I think this is true, especially in the case of my big toes.
If I walk around barefoot or even in socks/shoes (although these lessen the effect), it seems that when I walk I am moving the muscles, causing them to need to snap back into position.
It is that it seems that makes the annoying cracking noise!

Possibly, I know I've pretty much eliminated my ability to pop my knee in the morning by sleeping with a pillow between my legs. I think I was popping my knee back in place when I was getting up in the morning. It used to be a loud crack, now it has lessened, and I crack my knees in different ways.

Interesting - I might try putting something between my big toes and the second toe - any ideas? A tissue would just fall out, i've tried a while ago…

                One of those 'snooze' pillows.

no that's a good idea though in terms of my neck, i might try using it as a pillow at night. 😎

You need a product called Silopos. Or get a podiatrist to make you a toe separator from Otoform.
